Melissa Lora: The power of philanthropy and a love of animals - A conversation with Azzedine Downes

One of our generous supporters, Julietta Daidone of the Daidone SF Foundation, visited our partner site in Zimbabwe in 2024. She was kind enough to share a window into her experience which we are pleased to pass along to other friends and supporters, like you.

Last year I was fortunate to visit the Wild is Life Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery to witness firsthand the care and attention the orphaned elephants receive. It was amazing to witness how the support IFAW provides has contributed to growing the project, including bringing more personnel on board and improving communication out in the field. Visiting Wild is Life was such a heartwarming and enriching experience. The animals were so cherished and well-tended, and I loved the building where we enjoyed afternoon tea while hearing the founder’s inspiring stories. Later, when we visited the Panda Masuie release site in Victoria Falls, where the grown elephants are released back into the wild, it felt like a full-circle moment. Wild is Life is a fantastic initiative, and we’re excited to continue supporting it and similar projects through IFAW.
